Your Chairperson, Freya Rooke:

Hi everyone,
Most of you will already know me, but for those who don’t - or who weren’t able to attend the AGM - I’d like to introduce myself as the new Chair of the Canicross Midlands committee.
Firstly, I want to publicly thank the outgoing chair Ruth for her tireless hard work and dedication over the years. I’m really pleased she’ll be continuing on the committee as our course designer – we’re very lucky to still have her expertise.
A little bit about me: I’ve been canicross running for around 8 years, starting out as a complete beginner with a borrowed harness and belt from the midlands kit bag attending the club runs with my spaniel tri paw Buddy. I caught the bug quickly, did my first race soon after, and the rest is history!
I now have three dogs, two lurchers and a spaniel who I race in canicross and bikejor. My proudest achievement so far has been competing at the ICF World Championships in 2024 with my springer, Ozy.
I’ve been part of the committee for the past three seasons, so I’ve seen first-hand what makes this club so special. I’m incredibly excited (and very grateful) to step into the role of Chair. My aim is to build on everything that’s already been achieved, while continuing to look at ways we can improve, grow, and make the club the best it can be for all members.
I’m always happy to chat, so please feel free to say hello at event or drop the page a message.
Hope everyone enjoyed our Easter finale and I am looking forward to finalising the plans for the season ahead!
Freya
