Your Camping Queen, Wendy Clarke:

Hi everyone
I am pretty sure you all know me by now, but for those that don’t; I am Wendy, AKA, Sloth team leader or Canicross Midlands Camping Queen.
I am usually the first person you will see when you arrive on site, and I hope to make you feel welcome and at ease at all of our events!
I have been a member of the committee for approximately 7 years now, and I started Canicross in 2015 , I was at Catton Hall supporting my sister who was racing there for the weekend and whilst sat around the campfire enjoying a social evening I said I would really love to try Canicross with my old girl Bella . I was signed up for the Odds and Bods race the next day and the rest is history, It was the best thing I had ever found for a hyper spaniel who could not go off lead.
I was the inspiration for the ’Pullin Power’ most improved award from World Champion Vickie Pullin and I was very proud to win that in my first ever year of competing, this in now in its 10th year.
Fast forward 10 years and unfortunately my beautiful Bella is now at the bridge but I have a new mental little power horse in my spaniel cross Callie, who you will often see racing with other people on the long course, as although she is small she is most definitely is mighty, this also means I don’t feel quite so guilty when we attempt to sloth around the short course, often tail marking and taking in the beautiful scenery and for Callie the amazing smells !
I am excited for this year and the years to come, with the new young blood we have on the committee, that have already shown this weekend what a great team we are when we work together, I am hoping that we can build the club up, mend bridges, welcome new and old members to racing, getting back to the grass roots club we were, and can take the club forward for many years to come!
I am proof that anyone of any ability can do canicross ! Its just a run with your dog around a field, fast or slow no one cares !
Thank you for reading and I hope to see old and new friends in a muddy field somewhere very soon !
